I love me some Lima Beads. They send me a coupon code every week and when I do place an order before 3, they ship it out that day. For someone who hates waiting long for her impulse bead buys, that is a huge selling point. Anywho, when I saw that
Lorelei and
Shannon were hosting a Lima Beads Challenge, I knew I wanted to get one of those kits. When I first opened it, I was slightly overwhelmed. Great colors, great beads, but a lot of stuff I usually never work with. But, this is a challenge so I dived in. First up, I knew that I wanted to use all of the green beads in one piece and the purple and yellow beads in another. I found 2 pendants, one from
PorkChopShow and the other from
Green Girl Studios. My first piece is definitely my "style", one strand strung, lots of flower beads, but I do really like it.
The next necklace I really struggled with. I had set out the green Czech glass beads and pearl sticks to go with a Green Girl Studios bead but had no idea what I was going to make with it. Then I downloaded the new copy of BeadStyle unto my Nook and there it was - the perfect idea. There was a lovely necklace inside the issue that used some cross pearls, large metal beads and some chain. My necklace is inspired from that piece. I added a tube filled with some minty crystals and placed it at the bottom of the piece and attached the two strands of chain together. Here it is-
I need some place to wear it. It is so pretty on, I don't just want to wear it when I drop my son off at school.
It was also very hard to photograph, sorry I know these shots aren't the best.
This is so out of my box, and I did say that I wanted to challenge myself more, so I was very happy with it. Thanks so much for stopping by!
Both pieces are just beautiful. I love that first one with the wood pendant.
ReplyDeleteI love Lima Beads too!!!!
That pearl necklace is a keeper. Why not wear it to pick up the kids at school? I'd want to wear it everywhere!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful pieces! I love what you did with the long pearls - I'm still not sure what to do with mine, but you have given me some inspiration! :)
ReplyDeleteSteph, I love your designs. The purple and cream necklace is beautiful! What are the lavendar cube beads? They totally rock with the flowers and pearls!
ReplyDeleteI also love what you did with the Biwa pearls in the second necklace. Those little buggers made us think hard, didn't they? Congrats on two great pieces!
{Hugs!}
I love the first piece with the pendant from PorkChopShow. What a unique pendant. Both of your designs are striking.
ReplyDeleteI love both but the top one - absolutely gorgeous! Love the colour scheme.
ReplyDeleteSuch different styles, but both stunning...the first one is very me too.
ReplyDeleteWear it when dropping your son off at school you will feel good and walk with some strut. Lovely pieces you had some amazing beads to work with and you did an incredible job.
ReplyDeleteWow! really cool - I love the tube and the butterfly - so different and cool!
ReplyDeleteSteph, those are gorgeous. I love the how you used the different purples in the first necklace and that pendant is awesome. I would totally wear the second necklace anywhere I could .. school, grocery, the gym. (Okay, maybe not the gym, but you get the idea.) It's so pretty, it needs to be seen. :)
ReplyDeleteI love them both! Great work. Did you make that tube?! It's amazing. I totally think you should rock that necklace to a pta meeting or the park, I would!

Wow, both of these necklaces are gorgeous! The purple beads really pick up on the focal (which is FAB, btw) and the pearl necklace is just stunning. I had to go look in the Bead Style to see which necklace you were inspired by - that one is cool too! And I agree that you should wear it everywhere! :)
ReplyDeleteBoth turned out gorgeous! You should be so proud! I love that fairy necklace, just beautiful and inspired!
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoyed the challenge!
They are both great pieces! I had the same feeling as you, I don't work with most of this kind of bead, what do I do? I'm still stumped, but you did great!
